Never too early to make another Penn’s Peak appearance, America returns in 2010!!
February 2, 2010
Penn’s Peak is proud to announce America on Friday, October 22nd 2010, at 8:00 pm.
For the past 3 decades, America has been on the concert circuit and loving every minute of it. Their most recent release, the 2007 2 CD set Here and Now, encompasses the group’s signature sound both past and present. One disc is a studio recording of all new material and the second disc is a live recording from XM Radio, which features renditions of songs found on their greatest hits album History. Gerry Beckley explains how the new album keeps the “America Sound,” “We have intentionally tried to keep that being the main focus. We’re not trying to emulate or go backwards but the initial ingredients have always remained common to us, which were an abundance of acoustic instrument sounds, a lot of vocal harmony and interesting melodies and lyrics in the forefront.“
“A Horse With No Name,” their signature song, made America a household name in 1972. Just a little more than a year later, Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek were superstars riding the airwaves of their rock, pop, folk genre musical stew. They have always explored a wide variety of musical terrain with their hits being cornerstones of the ‘70’s Top 40 and FM rock radio; some of their best-known tunes being “Lonely People,” “Ventura Highway,” “Tin Man” and “Sister Golden Hair.” They have 6 certified gold and/or platinum albums and their first greatest hits collection, History, has hit 4 million in sales. International stardom, pressure, inter-band conflict and an exhaustive touring schedule took its toll on the group and in 1977, Peek left America. Beckley and Bunnell forged ahead and they were soon able to break into the pop charts with 1982’s “You Can Do Magic.” As their audiences continue to grow, they find themselves reaching second and third generation fans while their musical growth has continued unabated into present day music.
