You wanted them back, so here they come, The Saw Doctors!
Born out of Tuam, County Galway, some 24 years ago, The Saw Doctors are an Irish rock band internationally renowned for their live performances. As with any band, they have had an ever-changing lineup, but 2 members have remained constant since their inception, Leo Moran and Davy Carton. The band quickly gained national attention when they toured in support of popular Irish bands Hothouse Flowers and The Stunning. Soon enough, they teamed up with another popular Irish band, The Waterboys, who helped The Saw Doctors by producing their first single, "N17." This song did not chart, but quickly became known as the band's anthem.
A humorously off color tribute to an ex-girlfriend in 1990 was the first song they did to top the Irish charts. "I Useta Lover" spent nine weeks at #1 and became Ireland's all-time best-selling single. The band's debut album, If This Is Rock and Roll, I Want My Old Job Back, was released the following year and it entered the Irish album charts at #1. After two albums with Warner Music, The Saw Doctors formed their own record label, Shamtown Records. Their first release under this label was "Small Bit of Love" which garnered the band their first Top 30 hit on the UK singles chart. Their song "She Says" is used as the theme song to the BBC Northern Ireland comedy series Give My Head Peace and Guinness used The Saw Doctors song "Never Mind The Strangers" in an ad for Harp which aired in the US. In 2008 the band received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Irish Music Awards. Besides the Lifetime Achievement Award, The Saw Doctors have 18 Top 30 singles in Ireland and three #1's with "I Useta Lover" topping the charts for nine weeks. The Saw Doctors also have quite a rabid fan base which, at times, has been equated to that of the Grateful Dead.
