Foghat is back to grace the stage at Penn’s Peak!!
The band Savoy Brown decided they wanted more out of their blues boogie music of the ‘60’s, so, in 1971, they enlisted the help of Rod Price and Tony Stevens and gave their music a more rock ‘n roll flavor. This new lineup of Roger Earl, Lonesome Dave Peverett, Rod Price and Tony Stevens became what is now the classic rock band, Foghat. They were signed to Bearsville Records, recorded their first LP the self-titled Foghat and began a relentless 14-year touring schedule that saw many personnel changes along the way. Roger was the lone founding member to remain with the band through all the ups and downs. It was 1994 when the band returned to the stage as the reunited Foghat and recorded “Return of The Boogie Men.” Continual touring yielded a new live CD from Foghat in 1997 entitled Road Cases. One year later, Lonesome Dave is diagnosed with cancer, but he keeps on touring, through chemotherapy and all, until his passing on February 7, 2000.
Adjusting to the loss of Dave was hard, but they managed to forge ahead as Dave would have wanted. Replacing Dave was hard, but after a few hours in a jam session with former Ted Nugent and Victory vocalist Charlie Huhn, the chemistry was undeniable and Foghat was once again on the touring circuit. They continued touring for 2 solid years until they decided it was time to record a new CD. The outcome of this was 2003’s Family Joules and the release of a live DVD, The Official Bootleg DVD, Volume 1. In September of 2006, they pre-released a new double live CD entitled Foghat Live II with their current lineup of Roger Earl, Craig MacGregor, Bryan Bassett and Charlie Huhn. The last few years has Foghat reaching an entirely new generation of fans largely as a result of their crazy touring schedule, some of their songs appearing on the video game Guitar Hero III and their songs appearing in movies like “Dazed and Confused” and “Halloween II.” In 2010 they released a blues CD called Last Train Home and one of their newer songs, “Mumbo Jumbo” is included in the iPhone app called “Six Strings.” To date, Foghat has 7 Gold records, 1 Platinum record (Fool For The City), 1 Double Platinum record (Foghat Live) and their trademark Top 40 hit song “Slow Ride.” If you are a wine enthusiast, check out Foghat’s own brand of wine aptly named “FOGHAT CELLARS.”
