Here comes the Southern Fury Tour featuring Molly Hatchet with Special Guests Blackfoot and Jimmie Van Zant!!
Molly Hatchet The 70’s saw a new genre of music emerging, a mixture of blues, country, gospel and rock n’ roll, later to be known as Southern Rock. At the forefront of this movement were bands like the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and, of course, Molly Hatchet. They were named after the infamous 17th Century murderess hatchet Molly who copied her killings from Lizzie Borden. Molly Hatchet was the title of their 1978 debut album and it quickly reached multi-platinum status. Soon, Molly Hatchet was touring with Aerosmith, Bob Seger, The Rolling Stones and more. One year later, they released Flirtin’ With Disaster, which also reached platinum status. They continued touring doing an average of 250 live shows per year. This lasted until 1990 when the band finally had to take a break from recording. From 1979-1990 they released 7 albums while still continuing their die-hard touring schedule. Their break lasted from 1990-1995 with a Greatest Hits album released in 1991. While on the recording break, they continued writing new songs and touring the US, Canada and Europe. In 1996, they recorded and released Devil’s Canyon in Hamburg, Germany. This album was voted #1 rock record in Europe that year. Two years later, Molly Hatchet is back in the Hamburg, Germany studio releasing their album Silent Reign of Heroes. In 2003 they celebrated their 25th anniversary of the first national or international release with their first double live album Locked and Loaded. It was recorded in Germany at the International Harley Davidson Festival in front of 80,000 southern rockers. In 2005, Dave Hlubek, an original Molly Hatchet band member, returned to the band after a 20 year hiatus. Dave is joining fellow bandmates Bobby Ingram, Phil McCormack, John Calvin, Tim Lindsey and Shawn Beamer. Molly hatchet continues to forge ahead. After almost 30 years, they are a band that is always workin’ hard, playin’ tough, livin’ fast and still Flirtin With Disaster!
Blackfoot A letter from Rickey Medlocke: I am very excited to announce the new era of Blackfoot. I have spent months putting together this amazing line-up, full of explosive high energy just as it was in the early 80’s. It is being fronted by Philip Shouse, who many of my fans have seen play with me on the Simple Man Cruise during the Rickey Medlocke Jam. As I look back, I reflect on all of the great Blackfoot line-ups over the years. I am proud that these guys represent the future of Blackfoot music, and will bring it to an all new generation. I am also proud to announce that in 2012 the band will be hitting the studio for the first Blackfoot album of new material in 18 years! I will be heavily involved in the writing and production of the new material. This line-up has something for everyone. The bands look, personality, musicianship, and energy is pure rock n roll!
Jimmie Van Zant Jimmie, younger cousin to the wildly famous Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny Van Zant, is carrying on the family name through his music. His musical intent is to keep the Southern Rock sound alive and kicking, never forgetting where he came from. Ever since he can remember, Jimmie has wanted to follow in the musical footsteps of his family. He forges on not only for himself and his love of music, but also for his family name and as a tribute to fallen family members. Like Ronnie, Jimmie is a storyteller and songwriting seemed to be a natural fit for him. Therefore, Jimmie wrote the songs for his second album, Southern Comfort. Jimmie has a command stage presence and he is sure to carry on the Van Zant name for years to come. “I have always believed that music can change people’s lives and if I can do something to make someone’s live a little more enjoyable, then I feel I have done my job well.”
