Bobby Vinton, a Canonsburg, Pennsylvania native, is not only a popular and extremely talented singer, but also a theatre owner, movie star, multi-instrumentalist and the host of a highly rated network variety show. His father, popular band leader Stan Vinton, and his mother encouraged him to pursue music. He was 16 when he started his own band; which helped him earn enough money to finance his college career at Duquesne University. It was at Duquesne that he became proficient on a variety of instruments and just recently he received an honorary doctoral degree in music from his alma mater.
Bobby and his band garnered themselves a contract with Epic Records after appearing on Guy Lombardo’s “TV Talent Scouts.” It was with Epic that he released his first #1 hit, “Roses Are Red.” This was only the beginning of his extraordinary musical career. All in all, Bobby Vinton was awarded over 1 dozen gold records and albums and he has sold over 75 million records. As a tribute to Bobby for all his hard work and dedication, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce dedicated a bronze star in his honor on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Bobby starred in 2 John Wayne movies which inspired him to open his own theatre in Branson, Missouri. The Bobby Vinton Blue Velvet Theatre is a 1600 seat European Style Theatre. It is accented in Italian tile and blue velvet along with elaborate ceiling murals. He also hosted his own syndicated TV show the Bobby Vinton Variety Show. It ran for 3 years in over 140 cities throughout the US and Canada. He has a bestselling autobiography entitled “The Polish Prince.” Bobby has been called “the most successful love singer of the ‘Rock Era’” by Billboard and Billboard also says he had more #1 records than any other solo male artist.
