Gary Allan
Gary Allan is touring now for the release of his new album Set You Free. This album is a lyrical journey from darkness to light; it reflects a lot of what’s been going on in his life over time. He has a renewed sense of self and he is evolving towards a personal, creative freedom. In order to do this, Gary had to take a number of new steps during the recording process. He mixed up the production team, wrote more of his own material using new co-writers and even played lead guitar on a number of tracks.
Since he began recording 17 years ago, he has registered four #1 singles, seven gold albums, three of which went platinum and maintained admiration of critics for his unwavering uniqueness. This is the first album he has recorded since he had a polyp removed from his vocal cords. This polyp restricted his range and his strength. He could barely make it through three songs live before he was exhausted. Fortunately, with the polyp removal, Gary is back to normal and the difference is noticeable. After overcoming the vocal issues, he decided to devote more time to writing songs and co-writing songs, for the first time, with a series of women. He wrote five songs and four are penned with three different women. One of whom, Lindsey, he really connected with and she is the harmony vocalist on “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain),” the first single from the album. This was the first time a woman has provided the backing vocals on one of his songs. Set You Free also allowed Gary to find a greater artistic clarity, building a cohesive narrative from a collection of songs which were directed by three different producers. “I seem to gravitate musically toward wherever I’m at in my life at that time,” Allan says, “And I’m in a real good place.”
Gary Allan is back with a new album and fresh vocal cords; you will not want to miss this one at Penn’s Peak!!
