Doobie BrothersSunday, July 7, 2013
Besides a few years of inactivity in the mid 80’s, the Doobie Brothers have continued to perform and create for over 21 consecutive years. World Gone Crazy is their latest release and it is an analogy for the Doobie Brothers as a whole. The album features founding members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons and 30 year plus members John McFee and Michael Hossack. Unfortunately, longtime drummer Michael Hossack passed away in 2012, but his legacy lives on in the album. Producer Ted Templeman had this to say about Michael, “He’s the first band member-drummer in a rock group that was as good as or better than any session player out there…” This album has taken the band five years to produce, but it was worth the time. They have been compiling songs for years and finally decided it was time. This album not only featured a full spectrum of co-writers, but also a handful of amazing musicians; Bill Payne (Little Feat), Karl Perazzon (Santana), Gregg Bissonette (Ringo Starr’s band) and Kim Bullard (Elton John) just to name a few. The band feels really confident with this album because they were not rushed. They were able to take their ideas and work with them and make them complete songs. “This band represents a lot of American music styles. From the finger-picking stuff that Pat does – and John can do as well – to blues, jazz and rock and roll. By the time you get done, you’ve got, to lift a song title from another group, an American band,” Johnston says. The current lineup is Guy Allison, John Cowan, Tom Johnston, John McFee, Tony Pia, Marc Russo, Pat Simmons and Ed Toth.
This is one band you do not want to miss at Penn’s Peak – Doobie Brothers!!
