Making yet another appearance at Penn’s Peak, Dennis DeYoung – The Music of Styx!!

Dennis DeYoung has the distinction of having one of the most recognizable voices in the world.  He was a founding member of what would eventually become Styx when he was merely 14 years old.  Over four decades later, Dennis is still going strong as a solo artist, songwriter, keyboardist and record producer.  He made famous several classic songs such as “Lady,” “Come Sail Away,” “Mr. Roboto” and the 1979 People’s Choice Award Winner, “Babe.”

Dennis DeYoung’s solo album, 2007’s One Hundred Years From Now, was released only in Canada and the title track hit #1 on the Pop, Rock and AC charts in Quebec.  In 2009, it was released in the US and it featured 2 additional tracks.  Also in 2008, DeYoung’s musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame was staged in Chicago at the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre.  Dennis wrote the musical based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel and mounted a full production of it in 1997 at the Nashville Tennessee Repertory Theatre.

The Chicago affiliate of PBS, WTTW, taped Dennis DeYoung performing with his rock band and a 50 piece symphony orchestra with the Chicago’s Children’s Choir.  In 2002, this was the pilot of the PBS Soundstage Series.  The Soundstage DVD of Dennis DeYoung’s performance has been certified triple platinum in Canada.  The Soundstage Series are still being aired on local PBS stations; look for Dennis DeYoung on PBS in December.  Dennis DeYoung’s songs continue to be popular with all types of media.  His compositions have been featured in over 30 television shows (The Simpson’s, ER, King of Queens, Will and Grace, etc.) and his songs have been featured in 15 major motion pictures (Disney’s Atlantis, The Shrek II DVD, The Karate Kid II, etc.).  The most recent resurgence of one of his songs was when “Mr. Roboto” became a hit national commercial for Volkswagen.  Just last year, Dennis acted as the primary composer for the Broadway musical The 101 Dalmatians Musical
