Little Feat is returning to Penn’s Peak!!

Three decades of music and the band plays on!  Little Feat began in 1969 with Lowell George (formerly of Zappa’s Mothers of Invention), Bill Payne, Richie Hayward and Roy Estrada.  Three years later, they would add Paul Barrere, but in the meantime, they lost Estrada.  This was only the beginning of various configurations of Little Feat, but 3 members remain today from that 1972 incarnation – Paul Barrere, Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney.  During this time, they also signed on with Warner Bros. and remained with them for 12 of their 16 albums.  In 1971, they released their self-titled debut album featuring the classic cut “Willin.”  Unfortunately, during recording of their 8th album in 1979, founding member Lowell George passed away.  Soon after, Little Feat disbanded and the members went their own ways.

As with most bands, everyone knew they could not stay away for long and, in 1988, Little Feat was back together again.  They had 2 new members, Craig Fuller (replacing Lowell’s vocals) and Fred Tackett.  Soon enough though, Fuller too departed the band.  Shaun Murphy quickly replaced Fuller and Little Feat released an acclaimed studio album, Ain’t Had Enough Fun.  Shaun’s powerful bluesy voice recharged Little Feat and Shaun remained with the band until 2009.    Even though they were no longer with Warner Bros., they still released a few albums on various labels.  But, in 2002, they started their own label, Hot Tomato Records.  Their inaugural releases with Hot Tomato Records were Raw Tomatoes and Ripe Tomatoes; each one being a double CD collection of live rarities spanning their three plus decades.  Not only is Hot Tomato Records producing Little Feat albums, but they are also producing their own band member’s solo albums.  Fred Tackett and Bill Payne both got on the solo bandwagon, but continue to perform with Little Feat.  In 2000 Rhino/Warner Bros. saluted Little Feat’s amazing musical history by producing, along with co-producers Payne and Barrere, a comprehensive retrospective entitled Hotcakes & Outtakes: 30 years of Little Feat.  Their most recent release is 2008’s Join The Band.  Jimmy Buffett and his private record label partnered with Little Feat’s Hot Tomato Records to produce the CD.  It is a CD featuring major Little Feat hits played by a band that included Feat and some very special friends – Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck, Brooks & Dunn, Mike Gordon (Phish) and the list goes on.

You won’t want to miss more than 3 decades of musical genius at Penn’s Peak with Little Feat on July 31st!!
