Penn’s Peak would like to welcome the fusion of punk, new wave and vintage rock that is The B-52s!!
The B-52s have been quiet in the album department lately, but their first record of the 21st century shows they still got it! Funplex is “…loud, sexy rock and roll, with the beat pumped up to hot pink” says Keith Strickland. The eleven songs on the album still incorporate Keith’s garage rock guitar and Kate, Fred and Cindy’s one-of-a-kind vocals. They recorded this album in 2 locations: the Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY and the John Keane Studio in Athens, GA. It was only fitting that this album finish where it all began in 1977. Well, a few blocks away from the exact location of the party on Valentine’s Day where the B-52s played their first ever show. Their self-titled debut album was in 1979 and featured the ever popular “Rock Lobster.” Unfortunately, they lost their founding member, Ricky Wilson, in 1985, but the group rebounded with Cosmic Thing and its 2 Top 10 hits “Love Shack” and “Roam.”
Come out to Penn’s Peak and see the band that pioneered fusions of punk, new wave and vintage rock, The B-52s!!!
