Another first for Penn’s Peak, John Michael Montgomery!!

John Michael Montgomery, like most musicians, comes from a very musical background. He and his brother Eddie got their musical start playing in a band with their parents in Danville, KY. They played on weekends throughout the area until their parents divorced and went their separate ways. John Michael took over as lead singer and performed in a band called Early Tymz. He was still playing with his brother Eddie and their friend Troy Gentry. Soon enough, John Michael was “discovered” by Nashville talent scouts and by the early ‘90’s, he had his own record deal. (Eddie and Troy are members of the band Montgomery Gentry.) John Michael received the CMA Horizon Award and was also named ACM’s Top New Vocalist. This recognition set off a string of accomplishments for him including CMA’s Single and Song of the Year, Billboard’s Top Country Artist and even a Grammy nomination. It is the rich baritone voice of his that has made songs like “Life’s A Dance,” “I Swear” and “I Can Love You Like That” classic hits that helped set the standard for a generation. John Michael is still the master of the power ballad, which is very apparent in his most recent album. He has managed to bring truly honest emotion to life in his songs. All of the singing success was not enough for John Michael though. He began his own label called Stringtown Records. He named it for a hamlet near his Kentucky home. He launched his latest album, Time Flies, on Stringtown Records and he is now ready to produce other artists as well.
